People are finding creative ways to help with the bushfires in Australia, beyond just donating money and spreading the word about the disaster. They’re sewing pouches in various sizes for injured marsupials, wraps for bats, mittens for koalas to help them heal, knitting nests for birds, and so much more! There are organizations like the Animal Rescue Craft Guild that are collecting all of these handmade items and then distributing them to where they’re needed most.
Text version of today's comic for screen readers
Panel 1: Andrea is looking inside a box with shipping labels to Australia on the side, and Kay is rummaging through the box. There's a roll of tape on one side of the box, and a stack of fabric on the other.
Andrea: "Let's see... we have bat wraps, pouches in assorted sizes, koala mittens, and...."
Panel 2: A close-up of Kay next to the box so the contents are visible. There are rolls of a variety of fabrics, a Mr. Sprinkles holding a heart plush doll, and a bag of cookies with a Thank You card.
Andrea, off panel: "Wait, cookies? The animals can't eat those!".
Kay: "They're for the volunteers!"
Panel 3: Kay closes the package as Andrea looks over at Melanie with an amused look on her face. Melanie is passing by holding a stack of boxes and has a cookie sticking out of her mouth. Mr. Sprinkles is in the bottom corner with a happy expression at seeing all the care packages being put together.
Andrea: "I see...."
Melanie: "What? I'm volunteering too!"
